Windows 8 tablet is all about TOUCH now

Although Windows 8 was highly influenced by the iPad, its development started months before the first iPad was brought to light. The 25-year old operating system is claimed by Sinofsky to be the biggest leap ever made by Microsoft even since the Windows 95. The Windows 8 OS is expected to features almost the same features as those in the Android and Apple’s iOS. The best feature in Windows 8 known so far is the start screen that is to feature tiles of icons just as in the Windows Phone 7.

What was wrong with the first tablet from Microsoft?

Microsoft announced the first ever tablet way back in 2001. The pen-enabled tablet ran the Windows XP tablet PC edition but the compulsion of stylus usage in most cases was itself a huge disadvantage and led to a major failure. The device was also not that cheap, in fact it was offered only at a huge sum. The tablet was also weak in video capabilities.

In what way it will be different from the current tablets?

To be plain, except the inclusion of Windows 8, the tablet will be no different from others. It is to be powered by the same Nvidia Tegra 2 processor that has powered Android tablets for months. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time Microsoft has adopted it. The tablet will be capable of running applications written on Java and HTML apart from the default desktop apps.

Features of the new Windows 8 tablet:

The home screen which in case of the Windows 8 tablet, the starter screen as said above will feature tiles of icons. You can just tap on them to open and flip between screens just like in Android OS. The tablet is all configured to use the Internet explorer 10. Interestingly the tablet will be able to accommodate a mouse and keyboard. Sinofsky is not ready to give up the advantages of the mouse and keyboard. He claims that the precision required to work with photo shop cannot be achieved with fingers. Larson-Green the chief designer at Microsoft says that although all the apps are designed for touch, they can also work effectively with the traditional mouse and keyboard.

Windows 8 tablet at the AllthingsD Conference:

Microsoft introduced the first prototype running on Windows 8 at the AllthingsD Conference which was held last Wednesday which was when the starter screen and many other features were known to public. The prototype seems to feature a small number of controls up front and had a 10.6-inch, 720p display. Microsoft denied to disclose further information and gave some hope that it will be disclosing at the build conference that is to be held at Anaheim, California later this September. Some rumors are that device is will be surfaced during this holiday season.

Can Microsoft compete with the tablet giants?

This is not the first time Microsoft faces the challenge. For instance, consider when Microsoft launched the Bing.com and was successful competing the search giant Google, the launch of Xbox 360 which was also in difficult times. We just hope Microsoft does the same when it launches the tablet.

What does Analysts say?

Responses from Analysts are mostly positive towards. According to analysts, it is a good step taken by Microsoft as it will serve both the PC and tablet market. Some say that the inclusion of ARM based chips is a good move while according to some others: it will be definitely have a positive impact on the Windows Phone 7 as both shares the same UI. Have a look at the preview on Windows 8 and also check out the YouTube video share by Microsoft.
